Technology Entrepreneur Leads Product Development Team
Human Resources Director Also Appointed
NEW YORK, June. 12, 2008 -- eMusic the world’s largest retailer of independent music and
the world’s second-largest digital music service after iTunes, names Jack Welde as Senior Vice
President of Product Development. Welde, who began his career with Apple Computer, Inc., is a
successful entrepreneur with more than 20 years of technology and product development experience.
In his newly-created role, Welde is responsible for overseeing product development, supervising
the launch of new product features and expanding the product line at breakneck pace for eMusic
customers. He reports directly to eMusic President and CEO David Pakman.
In addition, eMusic names Betty Bernal as Director of Human Resources. Bernal will manage all
areas of human resources for the company's employees, including staffing, organization, employee
relations, new employee initiatives, and productivity.

Welde played significant roles in the growth of several large online companies prior to joining
eMusic. He began his technology career with Apple Computer, Inc and went on to co-found Trio
Development, creating the software personal information manager that was licensed by Apple
Computer, shipped as "Claris Organizer" in 1994, and later acquired by Palm. Most recently, he
served as Chief Operating / Technology Officer for SheSpeaks, the leading women’s insights and
word-of-mouth marketing network, where he created and developed the initial platforms and web
applications, featuring online survey tools, discussion boards, product recommendations, online
video, blogs and content and membership management services.
In addition to his technological expertise, Welde served as a pilot in the US Air Force,
achieving the rank of Major. He commanded two President of the United States Advance Team
missions, flew 80 combat missions in Kosovo, Bosnia, Kuwait, and Haiti and was awarded 1998
Aviator of the Year in Europe. Welde achieved a Computer Science Engineering degree from the
University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Cameron University, Germany.
Before joining eMusic, Bernal held a variety of human resources positions. Most recently, she
oversaw human resources at Video Monitoring Service of America (VMS), the world leader in
integrated media intelligence solutions that brings together news monitoring and advertising
monitoring across all media. Bernal was responsible for managing more than 800 staff employees
in eighteen office locations there as well as supervising the recruiting process, compensation,
benefits, employee relations, and performance management.
Bernal earned her B.S. degree in Finance and Management Information Systems from the University
of Binghamton.
