--Scott Holcombe Promoted to Vice President of Engineering-- NEW YORK, February 24, 2004 -eMusic (www.emusic.com), the largest independent music subscription service, today announced that Scott Holcombe, age 41, Deirdre Stone, age 30, Cedric Deniau, age 33 and Chris Hoerenz, age 37 have been named Vice President of Engineering, Vice President of New Products, Vice President of Technology and Vice President of Marketing, respectively. The new executives will focus on enhancing eMusic's service and continuing to grow its subscriber base. "In today's dynamic digital music industry, eMusic stands alone as the premier subscription service for independent music fans, offering its subscribers the flexible MP3 format, low prices and the largest catalog of independent music. These new executives solidify our commitment to delivering cutting edge music and services to avid music fans," said Steve Grady, General Manager of eMusic. eMusic offers subscribers the world's largest independent music catalog of more than 300,000 songs from 900 of the best independent labels including many artists, titles and live performances not available through other digital music services. It is the only service that offers its music in the de facto standard MP3 format, giving customers the flexibility to transfer music to any digital music player, burn unlimited CDs and make multiple copies for personal use. eMusic offers three tiers of service starting at $9.99 per month.
Scott Holcombe, VP of Engineering, has more than fifteen years of software development experience. Prior to joining eMusic, Holcombe was Software Development Manager at VU Net USA where he was responsible for the ongoing development of Vivendi's music and media websites, including eMusic.com, MP3.com, MP4.com, and rollingstone.com. Prior to VU Net USA, Holcombe served as Lead Engineer and subsequently as Software Manager with NeoPoint, a leader in the development of advanced mobile phones, where he led the development of the user interface and applications of NeoPoint's initial smart phone product, the NP-1000. Developed in 1998 and 1999, the NP-1000 included contact management, scheduling, and advanced messaging integrated with Microsoft Outlook-capabilities that other mobile phones didn't start providing until 2002 and 2003. In addition, Holcombe lead the development of the ProfitMax cardholder profitability system while at HNC Software and served as a software development lead for Mistix/Teleseat, working on their ticketing and reservation systems, and with Gascard on their nationwide automated fleet fueling network. Deirdre Stone, VP of New Products, joins eMusic with an extensive background in product development. Stone worked as the Director of Online Product Development at Bertelsmann's BeMusic Division, where she was responsible for online strategy and product marketing of the BeMusic properties, including BMG Music and CDNOW. Her team authored Marketing Requirements Documents and Product Specifications for all Web projects, and evaluated, selected and managed online technology vendors. Prior to BeMusic, Stone worked as the Director of Product Development at myplay Inc, a digital music locker and subscription company, where she led the product management team for myplay.com. She also managed strategic partnerships, including a multi-million dollar deal with AOL's WinAmp. Previously, Stone worked at GO.com, where she managed the home page and personalization. Cedric Deniau, VP of Technology, comes to eMusic with myriad experience in the engineering and technology field. Previously, Deniau was Director of Engineering at WagerWorks Inc, a world leading developer of highly entertaining, legally compliant, Internet gambling solutions. He was responsible for the complete life cycle of the core platform and games as well as release management, technical writing and customer site development. WagerWorks' customers include: HardRock, Sky, PaddyPower, At The Races, GetMinted. Prior to WagerWorks Inc, Deniau led the engineering team at myplay Inc. He architected the initial launch of the myplay service and successfully released the site in less than 100 days. He oversaw multiple subsequent releases including the launch of myplay's robust and flexible subscription engine. In addition, while at Infoseek Corp, Deniau authored an XML preference and layout technology for personalization and wrote tools to integrate partner content and applications into the Infoseek development platform. Chris Hoerenz, VP of Marketing, has been a leading Online and Offline Direct Marketer for over 15 years. Specializing in entertainment-based consumer marketing, Hoerenz served as Vice President of Marketing at CDNOW (the 4th largest Online Retailer at the time) and President and Chief Operating Officer at PCH.com, the leading online sweepstakes site owned by Publishers Clearing House. Hoerenz has significant experience in creating and operating subscription business models and was trained in marketing analytics at Columbia House Company where he served as Director Marketing Planning and Analysis. Prior to joining Emusic, Hoerenz was the Founder and General Manager of Targeted Media Solutions, a media buying company whose proprietary targeting and patent pending technology drove acquisition campaigns for more than sixty leading Direct Marketing companies including BeMusic, Bookspan, Readers Digest, and Conde Nast.
