eMUSIC WELCOMES SIMON & SCHUSTER AND NINE NEW PUBLISHERS
TO DRM-FREE AUDIO BOOKS ROSTER

New Arrivals from Penguin, Random House and Hachette Join Largest MP3
Audio Book Catalogue in the World

NEW YORK, May 29, 2008 -- eMusic
, the world’s largest retailer of independent music and the second-largest music service after iTunes, announces today that it has added ten new publishers - Simon & Schuster Audio, BBC Audiobooks UK, Reagent Press, Hay House, L.A. Theatre Works, Tantor Media, Phoenix Books, Inc., Listen and Live, Brainsync and Audio Evolution - to its rapidly expanding audio books roster.

Following the success of Random House’s landmark DRM-free audio book program testing with eMusic, more publishers are moving towards distributing their content in the universally compatible MP3 format. eMusic now offers thousands of audio book titles, including new content from major publishers Penguin, Random House, and Hachette.

"Publishers recognize that eMusic is ahead of the curve, delivering a service that today’s digital consumer demands -- great content selection, no confusing restrictions and the broadest device compatibility in the industry," said David Pakman, eMusic President and CEO. "Our customers are buying nearly 13,000 audio books a month, proving that eMusic’s focus on surfacing “long tail” titles and providing great value for the consumer helps boost sales for publishers,” Pakman added.

“We look forward to testing the DRM-free waters with eMusic,” said Chris Lynch Executive Vice President & Publisher for Simon & Schuster Audio, “as we believe their customers will be strong audiobook consumers.”

eMusic’s recently added audio book titles comprise a range of fiction and nonfiction classics, bestsellers and new releases, including notable books by well-known authors such as: Philip Roth, Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, Al Gore, Christopher Hitchens, Dave Eggers, Raymond Chandler, Dave Barry, Amy Tan, Tom Robbins and Walter Mosley.

New offerings from BBC Audiobooks UK include the popular, award-winning British television programs Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Dr. Who and Fawlty Towers. Notable Penguin additions to the eMusic catalogue include New York Times bestseller Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and Oprah Winfrey’s current Book Club pick, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Fresh Hachette arrivals include James Patterson’s The Final Warning and 7th Heaven, as well as The Whole Truth, by bestselling writer David Balducci.

eMusic offers nearly 2500 audio books from major publishers. eMusic audio books are encoded in high-quality 64 Kbps bit rate -- twice the audio quality available from iTunes and Audible. As with its music service, eMusic offers audio books at a great value. Customers can sign up for monthly subscriptions priced at $9.99 for one book or $19.99 for two books — and get one bonus book as part of an introductory offer. eMusic audio books subscription plans represent a considerable discount from the cost of physical audiobooks, which typically retail for $20 - $40, and are far more convenient, as physical products often include at least four and sometimes more than 20 CDs.
