I'd go away with him.
Canadians Kris Demeanor and his Crack Band are at their finest here. People who've seen this band perform close-up (I've been lucky to see them play several times in Australia) will recall the clever energy and genuine personality of this band. "Chocolate and Lust" is a standout, but this is a well-rounded and strong collection. The subject matter of "Practice" treads familiar territory yet its rich turns of phrase and rolling flow are easy to sink into, almost trance-inducing. Any Canadians, Americans or Australians who do not find "One Shoe" simply chilling should strain the ice from their blood. When it comes to crafting songs that continue to grow after many listens -- thanks to warm arrangements and intriguing lyrics that easily bear close, repeated listening -- I think Demeanor easily betters the produce of Canadian indie fellows like Dan Bejar and Carl Newman.
