We Say...
One of the first bluesmen to use electric guitar as a brand new instrument rather than a louder version of the old one, James had an amped-up, jolting, distorted, slash-and burn slide technique; the late critic-musicologist Robert Palmer cited him as one of the forefathers of heavy metal guitar. He recorded his standards (such as the title song) several times each, and this is far from his best collection, but it is a revealing introduction.
