  • They Say...

Sort of a second-generation version of Sly & Robbie, British producers and rhythm section Mafia (bass) & Fluxy (drums) have built up an impressive catalog of mixes and original tracks out of their Tottenham studio, most of which they release on their own imprint. This 16-track compilation serves as a sampler of their work (except for "Always & Forever" by Thrilla U, which was produced by O. Sinclaire) and includes a mixture of smooth, gentle R&B-influenced reggae-pop like Tesaide's "Still the One" with some light dancehall-flavored sides like Kofi's "Pon de Replay." None of the cuts included here is either innovative or groundbreaking, but the vibe is steady and bright throughout, making this a pleasant if not exactly essential listen.
