  • They Say...

Jazz for Singers and Dreamers is a budget-priced sampler devoted to artists on the High Note label, offering a selection of romantic ballads and relaxing background music. While the 12 tracks mainly feature female jazz vocalists like Etta Jones, Irene Reid, Carol Sloane, and Chris Connor, the male contingent is represented by Ernie Andrews ("Over the Rainbow"), Mark Murphy ("Don't Ask Why"), and Everett Greene ("The Very Thought of You"). While the packaging is drab, the music successfully fulfills the promise of the title.
