review The Best Albums of 2008 So Far
This is where we're supposed to make some claim about 2008 being a banner year for music or some such thing. But we can't. If you pay attention to music -- really live for the stuff -- then every year, day, minute and second is a great moment for it. The musical waters don't magically get a little more potent from year to year; instead they shift from city to city and genre to genre. The trick is figuring out where to look.

We like to think we're pretty good at scouting that sort of stuff, and that's why we can proudly offer the below titles as 40 of the best released this year. Did we miss some? Undoubtedly, but that's the fun part. We can say without qualification that we've loved every one of these titles below this year, and we can't offer a higher recommendation than that. And sure, we think there have been many great albums released this year, and after a perusal of our suggestions below, you'll be onboard, too.

Finally, due to differing catalogues, the US, UK and EU sites have different lists. You can view the others by the following handy links. Be aware that you probably won't be able to download everything in every list, but don't fret! There's plenty of great music to choose from.
